First Annual V.P Sathyan Memorial Tournament 2022
The 1st VP Sathyan Memorial Soccer Tournament, organized by the North American Malayalee Soccer League (NAMSL), took place in Philadelphia in 2022. This tournament was a highly anticipated event that fulfilled the long-standing wish of Malayalee soccer lovers in North America to have a premier tournament that unites them all.
The tournament featured eight exceptional teams representing various cities across North America. These teams included the New York Islanders, Philadelphia Arsenals, Austin Strikers, FC Carrolton, Houston United, Baltimore Khiladiz, Chicago Hunters, and Royal FC Toronto. The participation of these teams added to the excitement and competitiveness of the tournament.
Throughout the tournament, the teams showcased their skills, passion, and sportsmanship, striving to become the inaugural champions of the VP Sathyan Memorial Soccer Tournament. After intense competition, the New York Islanders emerged as the victors, securing their place in the history of this historic tournament.
The VP Sathyan Memorial Soccer Tournament was named in honor of VP Sathyan, a legendary Malayalee soccer star. VP Sathyan's outstanding contributions to the game continue to inspire generations of soccer enthusiasts.
In addition to the team achievements, individual awards were presented to recognize exceptional performances during the tournament. Joshua Mathai from the New York MSC was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), showcasing his exceptional skills and impact on the field. Justin John, also from the New York MSC, was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper, highlighting his outstanding performances between the posts.
Kevin Joseph from the Philadelphia Arsenals received the Best Defender award, demonstrating his skill in thwarting opposition attacks and providing a solid defensive presence for his team. Kanishk Nazareth, representing the Philadelphia Arsenals, received the Golden Boot award, acknowledging his remarkable goal-scoring ability throughout the tournament.
Furthermore, the Austin Strikers FC was honored with the Fair Play Award, recognizing their exemplary sportsmanship and adherence to fair play principles throughout the competition.
